ChipReaders.nl (hereinafter: "we", "us") processes personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In this privacy policy we explain which data we collect, why, and how long we retain it. This privacy policy applies both to the chipreaders.nl website and to the Android app "Vind Mijn Dier" (package name nl.chipreaders.app), published on Google Play by developer Vectura Business.

2. Which data do we process?
We process the following categories of personal data:

3. How long do we retain your data?
- Account data: as long as your account is active + 2 years after deletion.
- Pet registrations: until you deregister the pet + 7 years (statutory retention period for payments).
- Lost pet reports: 1 year after the report is closed.
- Chip scan logs: 90 days.
- WhatsApp subscriptions: until you unsubscribe.
4. Is your data shared?
We never sell your data. We only share data with:
- Mollie B.V. — payment processor (PCI-DSS certified)
- Hetzner Online GmbH — hosting (servers in Frankfurt, EU)
- Discord Inc. — internal notifications (no personal data, only report numbers)
- External chip registers (NDG, Petmaxx, etc.) — only for chip lookups, no data exchange
- Google LLC (Firebase Cloud Messaging & Google Maps Platform) — pushmeldingen en kaartweergave in de mobiele app
5. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the following rights:

We do not place any tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.
7. Security
We take appropriate technical and organizational measures:
- HTTPS / TLS encryption on all connections
- Passwords are stored exclusively as bcrypt hashes
- CSRF tokens on all forms
- Regular backups in encrypted storage
- Access to the production database is restricted to authorized staff
8. Filing a complaint
Do you have a complaint about our data processing? Please contact us first via privacy@chipreaders.nl. You also have the right to file a complaint with the Dutch supervisory authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
9. Changes
This privacy policy may be amended. The most recent version is always available on this page. In the event of significant changes we will inform you by email.
10. Mobiele app — locatie en pushmeldingen
De Android-app "Vind Mijn Dier" (pakketnaam nl.chipreaders.app), gepubliceerd op Google Play door ontwikkelaar Vectura Business, kan u waarschuwen zodra een huisdier binnen 2 km van uw locatie als vermist wordt gemeld — ook wanneer de app niet actief open staat op uw telefoon. Dit vraagt om specifieke uitleg naast de rest van dit beleid:
- Wat: uw GPS-locatie (geen adres, geen naam) wordt lokaal op uw toestel vergeleken met vermist-meldingen; alleen wanneer er een treffer binnen 2 km is, wordt er een melding getoond.
- Wanneer: ook op de achtergrond, dus zonder dat u de app open heeft staan — dit is nodig om u op tijd te kunnen waarschuwen.
- Waarom: hoe sneller mensen in de buurt weten van een vermist dier, hoe groter de kans op hereniging met de eigenaar.
- Uw controle: deze functie is standaard uit en wordt alleen geactiveerd nadat u hier expliciet toestemming voor geeft in de app. U kunt dit op elk moment uitzetten via de accountinstellingen in de app, of via de locatie-instellingen van uw telefoon.
- Delen met derden: uw locatiegegevens worden niet verkocht of gedeeld met adverteerders. Enkel Google Play Services (voor de technische locatiebepaling) en onze eigen servers (voor het ophalen van actuele vermist-meldingen) verwerken deze gegevens.
Voor pushmeldingen gebruiken wij Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google). Hierbij wordt een uniek apparaat-token opgeslagen — dit token bevat geen locatie- of persoonsgegevens en wordt uitsluitend gebruikt om berichten naar uw toestel te sturen.
